IMPT ANNOUNCEMENT

as all of you know, choir's scheduled to go on stage on 9th oct...but 9th oct happens to be daniel leow's wedding and many of the youth musicians are invited to his wedding since he's ywam's ex-leader...which means to say that the music side may not be very well-supported...no point having a very full sound of the choir but the music cannot support right?

soooooooooo, we propose to push back the date that choir will go on stage by 1 week, i.e. we'll go on stage on 16th oct instead...

i understand that this is very near to the major exams like o level, a levels right?...so many of us will be concerned about not having enough time to study...but think with me, logically speaking, the amount of time that we have to study is the same...just that now, instead of leaving everything to the last minute, you plan to finish revising earlier (which means more discipline!)...hee...

do think about it and voice out ur concerns if any...i'll be very happy to hear you out! :) u can do so thru the tagboard or juz sms me...

next wk's the thing le! so exciting! :)
some stuffs to settle though...i know this is a little long...but do take a little patience to read coz it contains SUPER UPER DUPER IMPORTANT DETAILS!
NOTE! the worship leader changed the version of "You are good" (praise) to the Israel New Breed version instead of the original Chris Tomlin version that we're familiar with...
though the lyrics are the same, the 2 songs have quite different atmosphere and mood...sooooooooooo, do go n listen and familiarise yourself with that version (I.E practise singing your parts, esp the echo at the bridge, with this version)

things to bring:
- dresscode (since we're all wearing quite different styles, i would like everybody to wear the dresscode before you come at 6.30 so that i can decide on your standing position before we practice the actions)

- i've uploaded the parts for all the songs that has parts...so do go and listen many many times until it's stucked in your head! :)
24th April (sat) - meet at nexus at 9.30a.m (more details to be given)
format on that day:
- as of last time, we'll split into 1st service and 2nd service people coz the stage is still small and limited...both groups of people to report at 9.30a.m for soundcheck, after which 2nd people are free to go off...and den come back by 1.30p.m :)

Summary:
- FRI (23rd April)
~ wear ur dresscode before you come for practice at 6.30p.m at europe room
~ already practised the songs and your parts many many times till you're very familiar with it

2) what is the core message of the song?
3) dynamics (in terms of volume and intensity)
4) were there certain lines that made an impression on you or make you think more?

1 - 3 gives the general flow of the song while 4 gives a personal touch to the song...
hee...can reflect on these questions as u go and listen to the song and practise singing before sat :)

for the benefit of those who din turn up for choir for various reasons, i shall do a summary of what we did during today's practice.
basically, the highlight of today's practice was the learning of harmony and blending. Harmonies are basically countermelodies that forms a chord with the melody line. This is done in preparation for the learning of parts for the praise and worship songs for 13th march (the day choir is going on stage).
What has been concretely achieved was that we learnt the parts for the song "No reason to hide". :)

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1) next wk is cny service so there is no choir
2) for 20th and 27th feb where we have LOVE TAG ESS, we'll still have choir. But in order that the 1st service people can be able to go fetch their visitors etc etc etc to prevent the visitors from pangseh-ing, we will have practice from 9.30 to 11a.m instead of the usual 10a.m.
3) dresscode for 13th march: yellow, orange or red basic t-shirt with black bottoms and covered shoes that is dark-coloured. (we tell u early so that u can start looking around for it NOW and not wait till the last min)

not by my retarded brain, but by the technical prowess of the Spirit of the Lord.

For those of you who are observant, notice i have been utlizing my "evacuation committee" quite a lot these few pracs cos of on-going auditions.
In view of our current project(serving the community-children's home), i wont be holding anymore auditions till the next ministry drive, which is near the end of november. This is because we have a lot of songs to cover,
so having new people every week = more ppl who dunno the songs = ppl who are lost = meaning is lost as a choir.
ahahahs so my last auditions would be THIS WEEK, SAT. if u all have any more friends who wanna join our family, pls ask them to come at 1130am this Sat, and TELL ME also. ahahas. if not suddenly got 30 people want to audition i will faint. (out of exhaustion and stress from lack of time)

yes. and the sadist has decided to give homework! choir homework. wahaha.

1) memorise yoour "may it be" score. yes. its really easy cos the song's quite repetitive. "x
plus point is that u guys will actually look at ME during prac instead of gluing yr eyes to the music sheet-which will make it very difficult for me to convey musicality to yall when we're doing the song.

2)next, is to figure the last page of the score, the tune AND timing---by yourself. i know it hasn't been taught yet, but hey, that's the whole point. Go and learn to read the music notes! u learn best when u practise it yrselves k! i wont blame anyone who gets it wrong, incorrect etc. but i WILL fault those who dint even bother to try ar!

its kinda rush cos camp dates seem to be later this year,(norm its 9-12)

k la. here's a lil sth for he people with exams,
its a bit lengthy, but do read till the end!

"Entering the examination hall without any idea on what's the criterion or subject being tested is equivalent to running on to the battlefield without a rifle.

Exams can be said to be a constant in a student's life. It is an annual ordeal, but even more importantly, we must understand that it is allowed by God. Thus the questions to ask, are why are we being examined and what are we being examined about?

An examination by definition is a test to see if we have acquired a certain level of proficiency in something. Thus, the purpose of an examination is always to serve as a gauge, both used by God and by man. Yet the standards of gauging by man and God differ.

Already answering why we are being examined, now we need to answer "what are we being tested on?” We need to know what we are being tested upon, in order to pass; hence this is an important question. The clear distinct fact is that schools examine our knowledge, but God examines our character.

Understand this; God's main aim is not to make us smarter. After all, knowledge of this world is not of much value, considering God's eternal kingdom. In fact, through our studies, we are merely understanding what God has concluded. HELLO. God made the world. If he's so obsessed about us learning how it works, he would have given us a textbook, not a BIBLE. Besides, if God wanted to use exams to test our level of intellect, God would be practicing favoritism with those that he created with a higher aptitude for learning.

God uses exams to bring out to light our true character. He's testing us in discipline, diligence and perseverance. If we cannot even be disciplined to study for an exam which is the basic responsibility of a student how can we then be disciplined to shepherd our sheep? If we cannot even study diligently, how will we be able to serve God diligently? Our character is reflected off simple things such as these.

Get this straight: This isn't an examination of intellect; this is an examination of character.

Our examination hall isn't the school hall, it's our daily life

Our examination duration isn't the scheduled time of the paper; it's the months leading up to the examination.

Our exam doesn’t end when the time's up for writing; our exam ends when the time is up for our preparation.

Our pass isn't in our marks; it's how we fared in the eyes of The Almighty.

He's not asking for top grades, He asked for top character.

Just do your best, for by doing that, you have already passed God's test."

we want to do our best for not just the exams, but God's test on Character as well!

yup. ultimately its not the grades that matter.
after all, God chose to give different people different skills/intelligence/wisdom level to do different things in the KOG.
(kinda scary if ALL of us think/act the same way. imagine 1000 louis-s in church. u'll go mad)

ahha so all we need to do is to do our best, use FULLY what God has given us, and continue praying and seeking God in ALL circumstance.
Don't worry, God's watching your back. And he can watch many backs at once, too.

Here is a list of the ways professors grade their final exams:

DEPT OF STATISTICS:
All grades are plotted along the normal bell curve.

DEPT OF PSYCHOLOGY:

it is to study, and there are people in the choir who are inclined with their God-given superpoweredbrains-- to help us all too!

we wont be using america room this sat, since there're not enuf tables too.. but instead we'll hoard the Marks n Spencers cafe yea. Pray that there's enuf room/seats for all!

BUT u do have to order something to stay there..

so i give ya all an option to have a break for this session k! its approved by our laoda so its fine. =)

1) mugging early in the morning when its supposed to be choir prac time OR
2) was mugging late late late( realli late) into the night and needed rest.

other than that, you will be accountable for your own actions!!

heys auditions hor, is on both in and out of season, just like evangelism.

we wont be operating at maximum capacity then! and our output will be less! ( the econs ppl will understand this)

Ol' Fred had been a faithful Christian and was in the hospital, near death. The family called their preacher to stand with them.

As the preacher stood next to the bed, Ol' Fred's condition appeared to deteriorate and he motioned frantically for something to write on.

The pastor lovingly handed him a pen and a piece of paper, and Ol' Fred used his last bit of energy to scribble a note, then he died.

The preacher thought it best not to look at the note at that time, so he placed it in his jacket pocket.

DUMBEST DEATHS IN HISTORY.

Tycho Brahe:
An important Danish astronomer of the 16th century. His ground breaking research allowed Sir Isaac Newton to come up with the theory of gravity.
How he died: Didn't get to the bathroom in time.
In the 16th century, it was considered an insult to leave a banquet table before the meal was over. Brahe, known to drink excessively, had a bladder condition-but failed to relieve himself before the banquet started. He made matters worse by drinking too much at dinner, and was too polite to ask to be excused. His bladder finally burst, killing him slowly and painfully over the next 11 days.

Francis Bacon:
One of the most influential minds of the late 16th century. A statesman, a philosopher, a writer, and a scientist, he was even rumored to have written some of Shakespeare's plays.
How he died: Stuffing snow into a chicken
One afternoon in 1625, Bacon was watching a snowstorm and was struck by the wondrous notion that maybe snow could be used to preserve meat in the same way that salt was used. Determined to find out, he purchased a chicken from a nearby village, killed it, and then, standing outside in the snow, attempted to stuff the chicken full of snow to freeze it. The chicken never froze, but Bacon did.

Jerome Irving Rodale:
Founding father of the organic food movement, creator of "Organic Farming and Gardening" magazine, and founder of Rodale Press, a major publishing corporation.
How he died: On the "Dick Cavett Show", while discussing the benefits of organic foods.

Jim Fixx:

we had more than 20 over, close to 30 ppl coming for auditions. (excluding Gideon who came in to audition for fun. LOL!)

am really glad to see more and more ppl coming forth to serve God with their talents and giftings!
woots. everything should be finalised by the time the ESSes end. pls welcome yr new choir brothers and sisters with wide open arms! (and mouths!)

lol. okok. couple of announcements,

-there'll be no choir prac next week, 09 Feb. Do take the time to work on yr peers, juniors etc. let's see converts in our caregroup even before ESS starts! Let ESS "upgrade" to be a time for star-bursting!

-so.. as the ESSes are on the 16th and 23rd, there'll be no choir prac as well..

- so a break of 3 weeks yea? the next prac will be on the 1st of March. Our newchoir members should be joining us le! =)

An elderly woman had just returned to her home from an evening of religious service when she was startled by an intruder. hello people!

i believe very much God has poured out much in this camp, and God has really moved in all our hearts and in our people's hearts!

let's walk the talk. lets put what God spoke to us in camp into practice. let's continue to make time for God in our daily lives, and not just depend on the spiritual high from camp. let's continue to love people, it is something more than mere =) =D (: C: and etc!

there would be no choir this saturday, so lets maximise the time! meet our non-believer friends/people up before service! prayerfully, as we meet them, we are able to bring them along to service to experience the goodness of God and His family! =)

in the mean time, continue to put what you learn in choir into practice. Bathroom singing, bedtime humming etc are all encouraged! remember, always be faithful and dilligent stewards of whatever that you have. God will definitely add upon it and multiply your giftings!

Hellos!!

i'm sure after all the practices and singing, whoever was involved in either jump/anniversary was really blessed by the whole experience. personally, God kept speaking and speaking to me. on and on and on. it was AMAZING. i hope you guys heard from God too! take time to recollect, take time to write down, take time to REMEMBER what God has spoken to you. God has renewed promises to me, and i wanna remember it. SHARE with other choir members about what God has told you.

i shall share with you guys what God showed me during JUMP conference.

God showed me a picture of the silhouettes of 2 people walking into a bright tunnel of light. den God whispered these words into my mind. "Only I can bring you to the place you belong, only I can take you there. and there is only one you who can take that place I have for you in MY KINGDOM"

everyone of you has a role in God's Kingdom. this is the Kingdom which wont end. it's worth investing. it's worth giving up stuff for it. and only YOU can fill up that role. i love this line which is in this song the hope bangkok people wrote. i love the tune as well.

but hey people, hey.

after today session, do evaluate your worship life and aim to grow it too okay! I've grown in it, and have a closer perspective how praise and worship really should be like, with Pastor Prayut on stage doing all the train thingy today. =)

A freestyle, enjoyable, joyous and God-glorifying scene!

some questions that you can ask yourself!

1. am I worshipping the music or God? do I get ministered only when we are singing the song that you like?

2. how's the depth of your worship? are you manifesting joy and closer relationship with God while worship?

3. which do you focus on more?

A. looking good on stage

B. a pleasing, pure and holy sacrifice unto God

4. do you pray before you go up on stage?

it is always good to humble ourselves, and ask God to realign all our heart attitude and conditions before worship! and its not the number of time that you've been through the session that affects your depth of worship. it is ideally and fundamentally, your heart's expectation!

one thing i learnt: surrender to god, and ask God to use you however He wants to, even if it means to put what you have aside, and allow God to manifest new gifts in you. :)

for those who missed the choir practice, we're now currently learning both the alto and tenor parts of all the songs, where possible!

so we're currently tackling the alto parts first!
and here's the recordings to help you guys to memorise it, since alto is all along harder!

know what?

this period of the year's the prime time for loads of choir concerts and competitions.

Let's improve by learning from others!
we need a strong worship choir for our growing church amen?

Don't be trapped on "planet myself".
must be pro-active in learning ok! =D

Meanwhile,
do rem that the heart is the most important!!
we may learn techniques from the world,
but our heart is pure for Christ. :)

BUT..
we cant go as a choir..
cos everybody has different timings and schedules. :(

i'll try to find a good one that everyone (or most) can go.
but while i attempt to find,
i trust everyone will
take charge of your own learning also.
right? :DDDD

yup.

there's an acapella finals coming up this week i think.
